Advice
Your taste is the most important!
Maybe you care more for distinctive color over purity. Perhaps you would like a large, dramatic stone.
Or maybe you prefer a smaller gem, but of exquisite quality and color. Maybe you are looking for the best compromise between these all characteristics!
Your taste is the most important thing of all!
The role of a your jeweler is to listen and make your ideas work. He mustpresent any advantages and inconveniences,
and always let you make the decisions.
Some experienced diamond traders, jewelers, specialists, and brokers have a strong personality, and push their own preferences. Make sure they treat you with professionalism, too!
A jeweler must present you with a wide variety of options, good quality, good prices, and he must listen and offer sound advice. Do not accept any less!

Buying
The first step, which is essential for purchasing a precious stone, is to have trust in your jeweler.
This trust may be based on his reputation over the years, or perhaps from a recommendation of a friend or family member, who has bought, transformed or
repaired a stone with a certain jeweler. Just because you have confidence in your jeweler does not mean you should let him take control over your project.
Even if you are not a gemologist, you can easily learn the basic precautions one must take in buying a stone.
If quality is very important for you, I advise you to ask for an authenticity certificate.
Certificates
If your investment becomes quite important, ask for a certificate from an established gemology lab, including:
- French Gemology Laboratory, of "Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris". It is a trustworthy and highly reputed lab, particularly in France.
- G.I.A. (USA), Gemological Institute of America, the best lab for gems, has high repute internationally.
- H.R.D. of Antwerp, the Belgian National Laboratory, specializing in diamonds, and used by the Antwerp Trade Market.
- I.G.I of Antwerp, with an additional laboratory in the U.S.A., is very skilled and known for work with diamonds.
- E.G.L. well known in the United States, more commercial.
- Gubelin, originally Swiss, this laboratory has been around for years and enjoys a very high reputation internationally. They are known for their handling of precious colored stones.
- S.S.E.F., Swiss laboratory, well known for handing precious colored stones.
See For Your Own Eyes!
Believe your eyes before anything else.
Even if a certificate of gemology accompanying a stone says that it is white, it may well be, but it is more important that you and you alone, before anyone else, like the stone in the first place.
When buying a piece of jewelry, you should always focus on your choice and personal judgment! Your good sense always matters and is the best judge.
Insurance
It is recommended to insure your jewelry and precious stones because of their extraordinary value.
For all jewelry, personal valuables, and family heirlooms, we recommend that you save, if possible, the bill of sale, photos
of the pieces, and the gemological certificates.
It is a very good idea to keep these, your most precious belongings in a safe deposit box. If you have not already done this, you can easily ask
your insurance agent to add specific coverage.
In the case of certain jewelry is particularly important, take out specific insurance for each piece.
In any case, keep photos of all of your jewelry. The photos that insurance companies prefer show you with the jewelry very clearly. Your face and hands should be recognizable.
Safe deposit boxes, trustworthy and economical, are about 100 euros per year, and smaller ones are available in the majority of banks.
